  • The Paint Movement: Digipak Design

Started in the early part of 2008, The Paint Movement and Aux Hey worked together to produce this digipak packaging for their latest album, "Our Eurythmy".

The design was meant to highlight the lamps used in the cover and back covers photographs. All the members of the band were more than happy with the final product and have since asked Aux Hey to exclusively produce their merchandise for the time being. Having just finished a tour of Canada, the boys of The Paint Movement are poised to make a name for themselves and their new label, "Nevado Records". The packaging was produced with all recycled materials.

  • Lacerda: EP CD, Type Treatment, Branding

Created in the summer of 2007, this project required Aux Hey to create a type treatment, logo, and EP CD design for the band Lacerda.

The branding portion of this project was meant to first play on the "L" of Lacerda, and second, was meant to reach a younger female/male audience. To reach these younger fans, a heart was used linking the "L" to "L"ove for the band. Now touring heavily into the United States, this CD EP has been moved upwards of 1000 copies at local shows and festivals. A new type treatment is now in the works and will be released sometime in the fall on new merchandise.

  • Hammersmith Compressed Air: Branding

Having recently created their own business, Hammersmith Compressed Air requested a "modern-vintage" oval logo reminiscent of early car and home improvement companies. With This in mind, Aux Hey set to work producing a number of proofs.

The Final design utilized a mono-chromatic-plus-one colour scheme, with pantone 123C being used as the yellow accent (not exactly mustard, and not exactly highlighter). Additionally, Copperplate was utilized along with a Maple Leaf to recognize the strong Canadian origins of the company. This logo is featured proudly by Hammersmith Compressed Air on all business related materials and uniforms.

  • The Paint Movement: T-Shirt Designs

Upon completing our first project with The Paint Movement, the band requested that we do some mock-up designs for two t-shirts that they would use for the tour merchandise come the summer of 2009. We produced a few mock-ups ranging from an array of lamps to a sad giraffe. After the designs were given to the band to see, two were chosen -- The sad giraffe, and the tree shirt.

Both designs were produced using a wacom tablet, in the hopes of producing a hand drawn look, rather than a clean vectorized look common in t-shirt design. As the band is a little bit folk-y, a little bit jazz, and a little bit rock-and-roll (Donny and Marie pun not intended)the band took a great liking to the rough nature of the designs.

As we have a relationship with the best screen-printers in Southern Ontario, Aux Hey can ensure that the lowest costs for t-shirt printing can be guaranteed. This is achieved by making use of cheaper printing techniques (when available) and being able to reduce complex 8-colour designs to 2 or 3 colours.

  • Lacerda: T-Shirt Designs

Created in the spring of 2009, three out of a number of shirt designs were chosen by the band Lacerda to be made for their summer tour in the United States. The first (named "skull shock") features a play on screaming Beattles fans from 1960's. Additionally, Wayfarers and the "dirty sanchez" moustache were added to the skull to reach out to the trends in current "scene" fashion. Originally a 9 colour print, this shirt was reduced to 4 colours for final pressing.

The second design (named "monster") was based on original artwork by one of the bands members, Jamie Watkins and was reduced from a 6-colour print to a 4-colour (plus the shirt colour) design.

The final design (named "LacerdaLACERDA") was meant to be a typographic design. As is the case with many shirt designs, full shirt pattern prints have become common as screen-printing techniques have become more cost effective. This shirt attempts to work into this vain of shirt design, where the name/font of the band name works more as shapes in a larger, overall pattern.
